Considerations about paintings The long wave after the storm and No Heaven withouth Hell (half-processed) . Enrico Benaglia’s art studio - video recording (05/02/2015)
Ugo Bongarzoni has not posed to himself the problem to be recognized through his work because he decided, probably, not earning money by painting. If he so wished, like many artists before him, having talent and fascinating by many situations, he should understand which is the style more suitable for him, and he should create a personal world in which to develop his own contents.
If an artist changes keeping old contents take a risk to mix them, to create confusion and his art will not become well defined.
For example, in the painting The long wave after the storm I find a great maturity, a complete work of art, ended in itself, a painting in which, regardless of the reading of meanings, may be because of the small size or of particular colours, everything alloy.
If I saw a painting of Ugo Bongarzoni, ten years from now, in an exhibition, I’ll recognize his hand in it. On the other hand No Heaven withouth Hell, although interesting, it seems to contain too many things and a part of it, especially where there are the white elements that does not bind with the rest of the painting, seems to be incomplete.
Bongarzoni is a person who has got talent, this is cleary evident by his activity in production of video documents but he could succeed even better if he focused himself. Every action of the artist always has a creative logic aimed at inventing and at aesthetic, but he must convince himself before people.
The artist has to be individualistic and sure of his means of expression, he shouldn’t be worry if his contents are not understood, no one may tell him what to do.
The user often just can say “I like it” or “I do not like it”, in the first case there is a common factor of sensitivity.
The artwork shouldn’t have to be explained. I loved The long wave after the storm immediately, and when I try to observe more closely at it, It seems even more beautiful to me, because I find other things in it. It’s a painting containing poetry, on the contrary I found the other artworks too conceptual. Art is where there is poetry, poetry is where there is man, otherwise it’s just conceptual art.
If Bongarzoni made this painting is able to make other paintings with this quality, this is because you haven’t to explain it, It’s immediate. And if The long wave after the storm is a rational artwork, conceptual then It is even more worth of my appreciation because, in spite of this, he managed to keep poetry and instinct.
If he realized this painting bigger It would not lose any of its contents, while in the other artworks, yet to be finished, there are imbalances in colour, sections of the painting left undone, as false notes. It seems, in fact, divided in two, there is confusion of colours that damages the contrast of the subject.
In my opinion, despite the fact that he never attended a drawing or painting course, and that he didn’t realize a lot of artworks, he has reached, however, a good technical ability.
